Governors Island Information





Getting to Governors Island

Governors Island is a car-free urban park accessible only by ferry. Ferries are available from Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Service from Manhattan operates every half hour from the Battery Maritime Terminal (adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal) in Lower Manhattan.

Tickets are required to board. Ferries are free before 11AM. Book your ticket, see schedules and exceptions here.

The terminal is accessible by these public transit methods:

  • 1 train, South Ferry station
  • R train, Whitehall St station
  • 4, 5 trains, Bowling Green station
  • M15-SBS bus
  • Citi Bike dock adjacent to the terminal

Service from Brooklyn is operated by NYC Ferry on the South Brooklyn route. Tickets are required to board. Please see schedules and ticket information here



Food Vendors

There are a number of food vendors available on Governors Island. Please see a list of select vendors that will be open on Saturday and are near the Symposium site. For a full list, please visit the Governors Island website.

The Island provides ample seating and shaded green spaces perfect for picnics. Feel free to bring your own lunch. Visitors are not permitted to bring alcohol onto the Island.

Tokyo Drumstick, a new concept from the team behind Kimchi Taco Truck, brings savory East-Asian inspired, chicken-centric fare to Governors Island (with vegetarian options) along with frozen cocktails, bubble tea, agua fresca, slushies, and more refreshing drinks.

FAUZIA'S HEAVENLY DELIGHTS

Fauzia’s has served up delicious Jamaican fusion food to NYC for over 20 years. At their cart at the Winter Village, you can try favorites like jerk chicken, vegan jerk chicken, fried plantains, beef patties, and more to see what makes Fauzia’s a Governors Island staple.

THREES BREWING & THE MEAT HOOK

Brooklyn mainstays Threes Brewing and The Meat Hook provide inventive, locally crafted beers paired with offerings from the acclaimed butcher shop at their shady location in Liggett Terrace. Each year, Threes features Public Property, a special beer served only on Governors Island.

Wheeler’s Barbecue is excited to announce a partnership with Pulse Grids by offering a unique BBQ offering on Governors Island for the 2023 summer season!
